The retired inspector reads dates before he reads conclusions.
July 2008. November 2016. February 2018. He writes them in a straight column on scrap paper and draws a line beneath them. Nearly ten years separate the reported event from the public declaration. That interests him more than a crowded room or an excited voice would.
The record concerns Sister Bernadette Moriau of France. Its repository summary says she had lived more than twenty years with cauda equina syndrome after repeated spinal operations. She used a brace, a foot splint, and a morphine pump. After a pilgrimage to Lourdes in 2008, the record describes a sudden release from pain, restored mobility, and discontinued treatment. An international medical committee confirmed in 2016 that the recovery remained unexplained in the current state of scientific knowledge. The declaration came in 2018.
This account is carried only at that strength. The repository entry is still pending comparison with the primary dossier. It does not prove what must happen in another body. It does not issue God a schedule. It leaves a brace, a recovery claim, and a long review on the table.
The inspector does not move quickly. Good. Hurry is no friend of truth. Still, a question has entered the room that his old calendar cannot answer.
Inspection is not unbelief
A sound building welcomes inspection. So does an honest claim. Scripture never asks you to call every report true because it carries religious language. It tells you to prove all things and hold fast that which is good. Care is not the enemy of belief. Care removes the rotten timber so weight can rest on what remains.
But inspection has a boundary. It can test a claim. It cannot write a rule saying God ceased to act after the apostles. That rule requires its own evidence, and the calendar alone supplies none.

The verse is structural. Yesterday, today, and forever stand on the same foundation: Jesus Christ. It does not promise that every story repeats. It does not make one reviewed recovery a contract for yours. It establishes that Christ has not diminished between the first century and this morning.
You are not living beyond the reach of the same Jesus. His written Word joins today to yesterday, and the Holy Spirit keeps that sentence alive without turning it into a prediction. Your careful mind may remain careful. The door still stands open.
What the ten years contribute
The delay matters. A decade of review is inconvenient for both easy dismissal and easy excitement. The committee did not announce the matter the following afternoon. The institutional conclusion, as summarized in the repository, was narrower: unexplained in the current state of scientific knowledge.
That phrase is not a sermon. It is a boundary marker. Medicine is honored when it describes what it knows and where its explanation ends. Faith is honored when it refuses to inflate that boundary into proof of every conclusion it prefers.
You do not need to force the file to carry Scripture. Scripture already carries itself. The file does smaller work. It interrupts the claim that serious people never encounter present-day reports that survive sustained inquiry.
You have room for a present-tense question without surrendering sound judgment. The written Word names Christ unchanged, and the Holy Spirit gives you courage to look without fear of being manipulated. An open palm is not an empty head.
The file cannot become a formula
Bernadette Moriau's record belongs to her. Your body is not her body. Her reported recovery does not explain another person's continuing illness, and it never becomes a measuring rod for anyone's faith. Wise care stays in place. Doctors remain honored. Medicine is not a rival to prayer.
This restraint is not a retreat. It is load-bearing honesty. A testimony can widen possibility without guaranteeing repetition.
You are free to receive witness without turning witness into a demand. The written Word keeps your hope fastened to Jesus, and the Holy Spirit guards your heart from both cynicism and pressure. You can say, “This happened in our century,” and leave every outcome with God.
The breakthrough is not winning an argument about miracles. It is removing an unsupported date limit from the foundation of your thinking.
Perhaps you believed Christ healed then but assumed that serious present-day accounts would dissolve under review. Here is one record that did not dissolve quickly. Its institutional process stretched across years. Its conclusion remained careful. Nothing requires a claim beyond what the record says.
The invitation is to stop saying less than Hebrews says.
Jesus Christ is the same today. Not similar. Not available only as history. The same. His freedom remains His own, His wisdom remains sovereign, and His nearness has not expired.
You are standing in Christ's present tense now. The written Word supplies the footing, and the Holy Spirit makes it more than an archived sentence. No borrowed excitement is required. The inspector in you may keep his level and torch. He must only surrender the false code that forbids God from surprising him.
One file cannot establish the whole field. It can expose a wall that was built without plans. Take that wall down. Keep the caution. Lose the century limit.
You have a stable place from which to ask again. Scripture keeps the character of Jesus beneath you, and the Holy Spirit holds your open hand without coercion. Whatever God does remains gift, never debt, and whatever you face remains held in His present care.
Declare this over yourself
- Calendar on the file, you record the year, but you do not restrict the living Christ to another century. Hebrews 13:8 gives me firm footing, and today stands under the same faithful Jesus.
- Fear of being fooled, leave in the name of Jesus. I keep careful judgment, I keep wise care, and I refuse the unsupported rule that nothing surprising can survive honest inspection.
- Lord Jesus, You are the same today, and I open my hand to Your present nearness. Your written Word holds the foundation, the Holy Spirit keeps hope alive, and every outcome remains safely Yours.
